One of the primary settings of 2016’s Finding Dory has been revealed and it’s not the ocean! New Pixar President Jim Morris revealed in an interview at the Comic Con Experience in Brazil that the film will take place in the Marine Biology Institute of California. This will probably be the equivalent of the dentist’s tank inFinding Nemo with the rest of the movie taking place in the ocean.
Morris also revealed the sequel will be set 6 months after the original film and that Dory will be living in the same coral reef as Marlin and Nemo. During one of Nemo’s school trips where she tagged along, Dory’s memories are triggered and they begin an adventure that will lead her to her family. He also mentioned the Institute in California is a huge rehabilitation complex for marine and aquarium life and that Dory learns she was born and raised there before being released in the ocean at a young age.
We assume some of the characters we know about will be in the Institute, for example Dory’s parents voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton or the beluga whale voiced by Modern Family’s Ty Burrell. Other confirmed cast members include The Wire‘s Dominic West and Idris Elba.
Finding Dory will hit theaters on June 17, 2016.
