‘Zootopia’ Director Byron Howard To Helm Disney Animation’s Newest Film Centered on A Latino Family

Walt Disney Animation is still reaping the rewards of its highest-grossing film of all-time Frozen 2, and with Raya and the Last Dragon on its way later this year. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding future projects from the studio.

Now, according to a new report from Discussing Film, they have learned new information regarding an unannounced project that may get quite a few

The site has learned that Zootopia directors are set to helm a currently untitled titled animated feature that will be centered on a Latinx (a person of Latin American origin or descent – used as a gender-neutral or nonbinary alternative to Latino or Latina) family.

Clark Spencer (Ralph Breaks the Internet) and Yvett Merino Flores (Moana) are on board to produce. As well as directing the film alongside Byron Howard, Jared Bush will co-write the screenplay with Charise Castro Smith. Smith has previously written and produced episodes of The Haunting of Hill House. It is rumored that this is the same film that takes place in the same universe as Moana, with music being written by Lin-Manuel Miranda

Not much else is known regarding the project, however, Disney Animation has an untitled film scheduled for release on Thanksgiving weekend 11/24/2021. Which seems like a good landing spot for this project.
