‘Underdogs’ To Be Released August 14

The Weinstein Company has set August 14th as the date for the North American premiere of its animated movie about a Foosball competition called “Underdogs.”

The company acquired the rights to the film last year.

Someday people will tell their grandchildren the tales of a time when there were actually movies made in which the Weinsteins had no part. The company’s current releases include the multiple Oscar nominated “The Imitation Game” and the hit partially animated family film “Paddington.”

From the dark and violent fare, such as Quentin Tarantino’s movies, to the family friendly, the Weinsteins always seem to know how to pick a winner.

“Underdogs” tells the story of a young man named Amadeo who sets off on an unexpected adventure with the players of his beloved Foosball game.

It stars Ariana Grande, Katie Holmes, John Leguizamo and Rupert Grint.

It is the first animated feature from Academy Award winning director Juan Jose Campanella. The movie’s soundtrack will feature three original songs written by British singer/songwriter and “X-Factor UK” judge Gary Barlow

“We’re excited to keep growing and expanding with ‘Underdogs’ being the biggest animated release in our company’s history,” said Harvey Weinstein, The Weinstein Company’s co-chairman. “It’s a fantastic story that’ll hit and appeal to all four quadrants with its comedy, pop music and a wide range of talented actors. In the coming months we will be announcing more great musicians and incredible actors who will lend their voices.”
