Wes Anderson to Return to Stop-Motion with His Next Film

In 2009, critically-acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson turned his creative eye to stop-motion animation. He proceeded to make an animated film that was totally different than any that had come before, taking the signature style of his live-action films and applying it to stop-motion. The result was Fantastic Mr. Fox, a film that comes as close to perfection as an animated film can get.

Sadly for us animation fans, Anderson turned his attention away from animation for a time. The live-action films he made during this period (like Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel) were great, but I think it’s somewhat safe to say that, after Fantastic Mr. Fox, that animation lovers were chomping at the bit, waiting to see what more Anderson could do in the animation field.
Now, though, that wait is over. Recently, Indiewire reported that Wes Anderson will be returning to stop-motion animation with his next film!
Very little is known about the project as of now, beyond the fact that the film, like Fantastic Mr. Fox, will revolve around animals. This time, however, the focus will lie on dogs. Sources do confirm, however, that pre-production has begun on the project and that the animated film will definitely be Anderson’s next release.
Six years ago, Wes Anderson took a classic form of animation, stop-motion, and made something fresh and new out of it. Now, he’s getting ready to do so again. Whatever the ‘dog film’ turns out to be, it’s sure to be interesting!
