Sony Pictures Animation’s ‘The Lamb’ Slated for December 2017 Release

THE LAMB Title Card
As reported on places like Deadline, Sony Pictures has set down release dates for 16 films spread out through 2016 to 2017 and beyond. The only animated film to receive a date on that list is The Lamb, an all-animal take on the Christian Nativity story.

According to that list, The Lamb will bow in theaters on December 8, 2017, sharing the same month with DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods 2 (December 22, 2017). The Lamb will also be the second SPA film to release in 2017 (the other being Get Smurfy).
The film will be directed by Tim Reckart, based on an original pitch by Tim Sheridan and produced by DeVon Franklin through his Franklin Entertainment banner.
The Lamb was one of the last projects to be developed under the guise of former Sony Animation President of Production Michelle Raimo Kouyate, before a company-wide hacking scandal and an executive shake-up resulted in her stepping down from the position (with Kristine Belson taking her place).
Ever since then, Belson has begun taking steps towards building Sony Animation back up after a rough (and public) tumble. Just recently, they won a three-studio bidding war for the rights to an animated feature based on the Emoji.
Their next film, Hotel Transylvania 2, will release next month on September 25. So it won’t be long before we can get a good gauge as to how the quality of the studio’s future outings will be effected now that there’s new management in charge.
